Joining the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is a dream for many individuals, and in order to make this dream true one has to pass a selection procedure in order to become eligible. The most important test at the beginning of the selection procedure is the PAF – Pakistan Airforce initial IQ Test. This test evaluates a candidate’s mental sharpness, problem-solving skills, and ability to think logically under pressure. The IQ test is not that difficult as it may look to you, a little practice can make you make you capable enough to pass it easily.
What is the Pakistan Airforce Initial IQ test?
The Initial IQ Test is part of the screening process for candidates applying to join the PAF. It is divided into two part:
- Verbal IQ test (50 MCQs)
- Non Verbal IQ test (50 MCQs)
Types of Questions in the PAF IQ Test
1.Verbal Intelligence Test
Verbal IQ test is nothing but some statements of which we have to find the correct answer, there is nothing to be panic of.
i. Verbal Reasoning
- Synonyms and Antonyms: Here you have to identify words with similar or opposite meanings.
For Example:
Synonym of “Rapid” is:- (a) Slow
- (b) Quick
- (c) Lazy
- (d) Weak
Correct Answer: (b) Quick
- Analogies: In these types of questions you have to find the relationship between two words and try to find the another pair.
Example:
Pen is to Writer as Brush is to:- (a) Artist
- (b) Farmer
- (c) Teacher
- (d) Pilot
Correct Answer: (a) Artist
ii. Numerical Ability
The verbal part also consists of the Numerical type of questions like below
- Basic Arithmetic:
Example:
What is 15 × 7?
Correct Answer: 105 - Number Series:

2, 4, 8, 16, ?
Correct Answer: 32 - Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, and Simple Equations: There are 2 to 4 questions sometimes in which some simple mathematical equations are used. Do not be afraid of these type of questions because they are pretty simple just like 5th grade maths.
iii. Logical Reasoning
There are some questions in the verbal IQ test regarding logical reasoning, these questions only require practice and a sound mind to solve them. Common question types include:
- Deductive Reasoning:
Example:
All birds have feathers. A sparrow is a bird. Does a sparrow have feathers?
Correct Answer: Yes - Puzzles and Patterns:
Example: A puzzle might require rearranging numbers or shapes to meet specific criteria.

2. Non-Verbal IQ test
Non Verbal IQ test is all about solving image related questions with no statement at all. You have to understand the question yourself using the images and mark the correct answer.
Picture Series: You have to identify the next image in a series based on a pattern.
Example:

Odd-One-Out: Spot the image that does not fit the group.
Example: Four geometric shapes are shown; three follow a pattern, and one does not.
Shape Completion: So, as you can see below, you have to find the missing piece of a given shape or diagram.
